India – Girls

Pratyusa

Age: 9

Pratyusa lost her father to excessive alcohol consumption at a young age. In the aftermath of this tragedy, Pratyusa’s mother suffered a mental breakdown and was unable to provide proper care for her children. Pratyusa and her siblings were left to wander the streets. Already struggling with special needs, Pratyusa’s exposure on the streets caused her to be seen as vulnerable and subject to abuse at the hands of local men. A local pastor saw the danger Pratyusa was in, but was unable to personally provide her the care and protection she needed. He contacted our partner Global Gospel Ministries and they immediately placed her in the Aubrey’s House for Girls. Now Pratyusa is able to live in a safe environment full of love. Despite her tough life, she continues to exuberate energy and resilience. With your support of Big World Project, Pratyusa can continue to receive the shelter, food, clothing, education, love, and knowledge about Christ that she so desperately needs in her life.

Kanakalakshmi

Age: 9

This adorable nine-year-old girl, Kanakalakshmi, and her sister have only ever known life on the streets begging for money.  When Kanakalakshmi’s parents didn’t take her along to beg, they locked her in a room with 30 other children whose parent’s were also beggars. The children would nearly suffocate on days when the heat was unbearable.  The older children who were penned up with her often bullied Kanakalakshmi.  This young girl also suffered terrible things at the hands of the older boys.  Kanakalakshmi would often go along with her older sister to pilfer things from people’s homes.  On one occasion both she and her older sister were caught stealing and were severely beaten.  A local pastor saw her plight and rescued her.  He convinced her parents to relinquish Kanakalakshmi and her sister to the care of Global Gospel Ministries.  The sisters moved to the Lydia’s Home, a Big World Project orphanage, where they now enjoy a comfortable bed, three nutritious meals a day, and go to school. They’re learning of the love of Jesus and live with hope of a promising future.   All this is possible because of your sponsorship gifts to Big World Project.

Martha

Age: 8

Martha is eight years old and comes from a caste whose profession is begging.  Although her parents accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, they were still fearful to leave the only means of survival they have ever known.  They continued to go from village to village begging.  They could not afford to educate Martha nor provide a safe environment for her to grow. Initially wanting Martha to also beg on the streets, her parents came into contact with our partner, Global Gospel Ministries. They encouraged her parents to allow Martha to come to Jackson Mission School. Consenting, Martha now resides at the Aubrey House for girls where she is being educated, enjoys three meals a day and has a comfortable bed to sleep.  We are grateful to God for her beautiful spirit and we are confident that she will be a bright light for Jesus Christ.  All this is possible because of your sponsorship gifts to Big World Project.
